Winter Reading Challenge

This year, the Public Libraries’ Winter Reading Challenge is about sharing the love of reading. It has just started and runs until the end of the spring half-term. Children can read or listen to any four books to complete the challenge. This includes books they read or listen to for school, with family members and friends over Zoom, bedtime stories, non-fiction books, eBooks and audiobooks. The aim is to encourage some winter reading for pleasure! Click the link below for more details and how to register: Take part in the Winter Reading Challenge | Hampshire County Council (hants.gov.uk) https://www.hants.gov.uk/librariesandarchives/kids-zone/take-part

Hampshire School Library Service

QI learners have been provided with a login to access ebooks and audio books from Hampshire School Library Service (SLS):
  • Loans are available for children from every group, with age restrictions on some titles where appropriate.
  • Up to 2 books may be borrowed at a time, for a period of 14 days each.  This period can be extended by renewing a title.
  • Children are also able to reserve a maximum of 2 books at a time.
  • If desired, an app can be downloaded from the homepage of the SLS website to enable users  to read or listen to their favourite books at any time (even offline) on another device, without downloading any additional software.

Should you experience any difficulties with this facility, please submit an enquiry through the Contact Page of the SLS portal and our administrator will get back to you as soon as possible.

Oak National Academy Virtual Library

Children in England also have free access to the Oak National Academy's Virtual library - https://library.thenational.academy/

Bookstart Treasure Pack for Children aged 3 - 4

BookTrust offer free high-quality book packs for every child in England aged 3-4.

Do you have a much younger brother or sister?  With many children not attending their early years settings, they may not have received their Bookstart Treasure pack. These are usually given out by settings when they receive their allocation from their local library. Libraries still have supplies of Bookstart  Treasure and Bookstart Baby packs - so families who might benefit from them can ask at their library.
