Spring Term 2 - 2019

Key Stage 1 Karate Taster Day

The Sport Premium budget has created even more opportunities for children to take part in physical activity at Queen’s Inclosure. Children are able to experience activities and sports across a wide range of sporting disciplines. Representatives and coaches from Applied Karate visited children in Years 1 and 2 to give them a taste of the popular martial art. Since the teaching and coaching style of Karate is unique, the children had to adapt to responding very quickly to instructions and moving their bodies in ways which they may not have tried before. The children buzzed back to their classrooms excitedly and were eager to tell their parents all about it.

Year 5 and 6 Sports Hall Athletics Competition

Twelve children from Year 5 and 6 attended the competitive Sports Hall Athletics Tournament at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth. Children took part in individual track and field races and team relays against some fantastic athletes from other schools. Overall, Team QI finished a triumphant 4th - a fantastic achievement!

Year 3 and 4 Swimming Gala

The Year 3 and 4 Swimming Gala is a popular event at QI as all the children enjoy swimming and sport. Following trials, Miss Roe and Mrs Jarrom took ten children to the Mountbatten Centre on Friday 15th March. The children took part in many different races, including front crawl, breaststroke, mushroom float and relays. Swimming over 25m in a race is tough and the children put in every ounce of effort, showing resilience and a desire to succeed. Team QI were placed 2nd out of 9, only coming second to the very strong Horndean team.

Year 5 and 6 Mixed Netball

Two teams from Years 5 and 6 played a series of matches at the local mixed netball competition and faced tough opponents from both the gold and silver pools. The gold team were placed second due to goal difference, with St John’s chasing them closely in third place. The silver team were awarded third place, finishing against some very tall Year 6’s from other schools. Here are the results of the matches: Netball League Results

Key Stage 1 Gymnastics

Our Year 2 children were excited to take part in the school games level 2 gymnastics competition, proudly wearing their purple leotards and vests as they represented QI. They had to perform the floor and vault key steps routine in front of real judges who scored the children on each one of the movements. Team QI did a sterling job and achieved first place. What an outstanding team effort! The children proudly wore their gold medals in school to show to their friends.

Spring Term 1 - 2019

Key Stage One Ball Skills Festival

Children from KS1 took part in a ball skills festival at Havant Academy and spent an enjoyable morning practising new ball skills. They had the opportunity to work as a team and persevered with tricky activities. The sport leaders were excellent role models and inspired all the children.

Year 5 and 6 Table Tennis Tournament

A new team from QI visited Admiral Lord Nelson School to take part in the Portsmouth area table tennis tournament, playing individual matches against children from local schools. The boys and girls were separated into two different pools, all playing to reach the finals. Beau reached the quarter finals and Hudson made it all the way, achieving 1st overall. Following this success, Hudson attended the next county round in Eastleigh where he faced tough opponents in heated matches.

Year 5 and 6 Tri-Golf Competition

Ten children from Years 5 and 6 went to Horndean Technology College to take part in the tri golf competition. The morning was spent taking part in different golf activities and the children had to work as a team, practising their putting and chipping skills. All the effort payed off as the children were victorious and finished in 1st place. Congratulations to the team who will now represent Havant and Waterlooville at the Hampshire School Games in June.

Year 4 Badminton Festival

Children from Year 4 gained the opportunity to learn new badminton skills during a festival at Havant Academy’s large sports hall. Team QI were separated into two teams and had a great time demonstrating their sporting resilience - hitting the shuttlecock was rather tricky. All the children had a lot of fun and are now keen to play badminton in the garden and at lunchtimes when the weather becomes less windy.

Year 5 and 6 Badminton Tournament

Our badminton participation continued as the Year 5 team took part in a school games badminton tournament. The children played lots of matches, learning how to score points, serve and cover lots of space on the court. The matches required players to use, not only their physicality, but their tactical skills as well.

Year 5 and 6 Level 1 Hockey Inter Class Tournament

The Level 1 sports competitions which take place in our final P.E. lesson of the term provide a sporting highlight for many of our children. Years 5 and 6 joined forces in the Level 1 hockey competition and were organised into mixed teams by Mr Murray and Mr Beeton. Battling through the matches, there were two teams who made the final. Children cheered each other on to score the winning goal.

The Level 1 competition is a great opportunity for all children at QI to take part in a sporting competition. In addition to playing in the matches, they kept the score, kept the time and took photos, allowing each and every child to learn and find enjoyment through sport. Congratulations to the winning team, Orange B!

National League Trust Under 11’s Cup

Following the Year 6 football team’s success earlier on in the year, they travelled to Oxford Football Club to represent Havant and Waterlooville Football Club at the National League Trust Under 11’s football tournament. The boys had never lost a game so the pressure was on. They played against very skilled teams from Torquay to Kidderminster, which tested their tactics and ability to score in a 7 a side match. All players had to work continuously and creatively to get the ball to the goal, meaning shots at goal were tricky.

Team QI played each team twice and were placed 3rd overall. The boys had an unforgettable time creating sporting memories to last a lifetime.

Autumn Term 2 - 2018

Basketball League - Year 5 and 6

Over several weeks, Team QI took part in the Upper Key Stage 2 Basketball League. This is only the second year that we have entered; the children enjoyed it so much last year that they were again desperate to showcase their sporting skills. The matches were tough and height advantage paid off for some teams. However, QI’s A team continued play well and reached the final against a well-drilled Purbrook, the reigning champs. Unlucky in the final, they were placed 2nd overall in the gold league. QI’s B team, also playing in the gold league, were strong and fought to the end without failing to compete with fair sportsmanship. Overall, they came 3rd, winning the bronze medal. QI’s C team played in the silver league and, while they did not achieve a medal position, they had a fantastic time playing matches against other schools! A special mention must be made of Neve and Maya, who were talented-spotted! They were asked to attend trials for the South of England basketball squad. We look forward to hearing how they get on!

Football League - Years 5 and 6

Queen’s Inclosure entered a gold and a silver team into the Years 5 and 6 Football League held weekly at South Downs College. Each week, the teams played fixtures against other schools in the local district. Both teams triumphantly slotted many goals into the back of the net - as well as saving them. Ultimately, the Silver Team wasn’t placed in a medal position but played with great enthusiasm. The Gold Team reached the final week without losing a match. The 1st place position was in sight and all they had to do was finish the job…. and they did. QI’s Gold Team won the league and were crowned champions of the Havant and Waterlooville schools. QI have not won the Year 6 Boys’ Football League in many years, so this was a much-celebrated achievement. Team QI will represent Havant and Waterlooville in the next county round in 2019. We would like to thank the parents and Mr Beeton who supported and coached the children.

Havant and Waterlooville Football Tournament - Years 5 and 6

On a very wet and stormy Friday 7th December, the Gold and Silver football teams took part in the Havant Hawks Year 5 and 6 Boys’ Football Tournament. The aim of the tournament was to select a school to represent the football club at a national tournament, with the final being held at Wembley Stadium in the later part of 2019. With the Gold Team determined to keep up their winning streak, expectations were high! The weather was not on our side; the pelting rain made it hard to control the ball and skills were put to the test. The Silver Team battled through, working well together and passing the ball accurately around the pitch to achieve 3rd position overall! The Gold Team were once again awarded 1st position. They will go forward to represent Havant Hawks in the next Hampshire round! Congratulations to all the boys who took part!

Multi Skills Festival - Years 3 and 4

Years 3 and 4 enjoy their physical education sessions so much that they are desperate to attend lots of level 2 competitions. Six children from lower Key Stage 2 went to South Downs College with Mr Murray and Mrs Mullard to take part in the Multi Skills Festival. The children had the opportunity to take part in competitive activities and games where their resilience was very much tested. The sports leaders at the college helped and instructed the children to complete tricky activities throughout the morning. Team QI did a sterling job and were placed in the bronze medal position. The children enjoyed bringing the bronze medals back to school to show all their friends.

Autumn Term 1 - 2018

Football - Year 1

Two teams of six learners from Year 1 went to South Downs College to take part in the Year 1 Football Festival. Supported by sports leaders from the college, the young footballers enjoyed learning new football skills in a competitive environment. Both teams were placed 4th in Pool A and Pool B. Congratulations to all the children who took part!

Ultimate Frisbee - Years 5 and 6

Two squads from Years 5 and 6 took part in the Ultimate Frisbee Competition, hosted in the Havant and Waterlooville district. The children had never played ultimate frisbee before but quickly learnt the rules and some new skills in lunchtime practices beforehand. Both teams won all of their matches, meaning they won both pool A and pool B! Team QI displayed perseverance, energy and resilience in all of their matches. It was a fantastic example of going for gold.

Tri Golf - Years 3 and 4

Ten children from Years 3 and 4 went to Horndean Technology College to take part in the level 2 Tri Golf Competition against other local schools. The children had already practised their golf skills during a lunchtime club and took part in different challenges, including chipping short and long distances, as well as careful, accurate putting. Following a sterling effort, the team was awarded 1st position, thus securing a place at the level 3 Hampshire School Games Competition in June 2019! This is the second consecutive year that QI has qualified for the level 3 competition; we are extremely proud of their golfing efforts.

Level 1 Competitions

Separated into teams across their key stage, the afternoon was a fantastic opportunity for children to take part in competitive sports in school; Years 3 & 4 played football, while Years 5 & 6 played football and also hybrid netball.

Summer Term 2 - 2018

Hampshire School Games

This year’s qualifying squads were:

  • Tri Golf Year 3 and 4
  • Tri Golf Year 5
  • Gymnastics Year 3 and 4
  • Year 5/6 Tag Rugby

Hampshire School Games 2018 was the most successful Level 3 sports competition that QI had participated in! This year, four QI teams qualified for the county event - 44 children in total! However, the date was changed for the Tag Rugby final so only three teams took part on 21st June.

Both Upper and Lower Key Stage 2 teams qualified for Tri Golf. Continuing their winning streak, the Year 3 and 4 team won the event, finishing in 1st place while our Year 5 team, who were against other district Year 6 teams, came 3rd overall, winning a bronze medal! We are so proud of them.

The top three positions did not stop there either. The gymnastics team finished the day in second place, winning a silver medal! Not one QI learner got back on to the coach without a triumphant top three position. The coach was full of smiles and gold, silver and bronze medals! We travelled back to Waterlooville, happy and content, ready to share celebrations with our family and friends. The bar has been set….. Can we manage four qualifying teams next year? We need to start practising now!

Year 5 Sports Leaders

During the summer term, Mr Beeton trained the whole of Year 5 to become sports leaders. They each built skills to earn their playmakers award, helping to promote sport in our school. They had to plan a series of activities which they could run during playtimes. At the end of the training, Year 1 were invited to the playground so the Year 5 sports leaders could practise their new skills. Three Year 5s communicated with and instructed the Year 1s at each activity station. The Year 5s will be able to bring these skills to Year 6 in September.

Year 2 Gymnastics

The Year 2 gymnastics squad travelled to the Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre to take part in the Portsmouth KS1 Key Steps gymnastics competition. The children looked super smart as they arrived ready to show their well-rehearsed routines. The children were flawless in the execution of their moves, soaring straight into first place and each winning a gold medal! At the award ceremony, the children were invited to stand on the podium - just like real Olympians!

Kwik Cricket League

Despite making it through to the semi-finals of the Kwik Cricket League, our Years 5 and 6 team were regrettably unable to take part in the final matches at Drayton Park due to last minute date changes which conflicted with commitments at QI.  We commiserate with the boys but congratulate them on excellent performance in the league.

Summer Term 1 - 2018

Year 5 and 6 Girls Football

Team QI fielded 2 strong teams in the girl’s football tournament at South Downs College. The silver team responded well to difficult fixtures against local school teams, finishing in the middle of their group in 6th place. The gold team worked solidly together to secure a place in the knock out stages of the tournament. The team narrowly missed out on 3rd place, placing 4th overall. Mr Beeton was very proud of their efforts as they faced challenging, pacey oppositions.

Tennis

Tennis is a growing sport at QI. Four children each from Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper key Stage 2 competed in tennis tournaments. Team QI Tennis ( Year 5 and 6): Beau, Hudson, Tessa and Isla

Year 5 Tri Golf

QI have not traditionally entered a team into the Upper Key Stage 2 golf competition - but we were glad we did this term! The squad of 5 boys and 5 girls took part in different activities in which they had to use their golf skills. Not only did they have to putt and chip but work in collaboration to collect points as they mastered the golf course. The children showed determination to succeed and were inspired by the competition, so much so that they came 1st, winning the gold medal.

The children also qualified for the Hampshire School Games in June, where Team QI Golf will represent Havant and Waterlooville. They will accompany the lower Key Stage 2 team who will represent Havant and Waterlooville in the lower age category.

Team QI Golf ( Year 5): Maddie, Alana, Hudson, Lewis, Jack P, Gracie, Jessie, Summer, Callum and Gerrard

Year 4 Football

Children from Year 4 took part in a football tournament at South Downs College. They played matches against other Year 4 squads. Some of the squad had already played in the Year 4 tournament so were confident to represent QI. The team scored and saved many goals but unluckily missed out on a top 3 position, being awarded 4th place. We can’t wait to see their keen footballer skills develop on their QI football learning journey.
